With the E3, Dan Clark presents us with closed-back planar magnetic headphones featuring cutting-edge technologies such as the AMTS frequency response control system (acoustic metamaterial technology) and 5th generation planar magnetic drivers developed directly by the brand. The result is a comfortable headphone with impressive sound reproduction, balanced timbre and explosive dynamics.
One of the key points of the E3 is undoubtedly the integration of the AMTS frequency response adjustment system. This system, previously found in much more high-end headphones, uses advanced meta-materials to shape the frequency response of the headphones. This method has the dual advantage of enabling very fine adjustment of frequency response and eliminating high-frequency standing waves, resulting in a final rendering that is more balanced, nuanced and airy.
The E3 incorporates the 5th generation of magnetic planar drivers developed by Dan Clark. This new version features a completely new diaphragm suspension system for more uniform, consistent performance and lower distortion. The composition of the diaphragm, coupled with the highly optimized V-planar knurling, delivers a very smooth, distortion-free frequency response across the entire audible spectrum.
Once this driver is coupled with the AMTS frequency response control, the result is a balanced, delicate tone, with explosive dynamics and a very wide soundstage, something quite rare in closed-back headphones.
While it's not unusual to see bass reflex in closed-back headphones, Dan Clark is once again innovating with a version of this technology that includes two vents instead of one, allowing them to fine-tune the frequency response to deliver a powerful, bass-impacting experience without over-bloating the midrange.
For Dan Clark, wearing comfort has always been a primary concern in the design of his headphones. The E3 is no exception, benefiting from all the brand's ergonomic advances, such as the automatic tension-distribution headband used in the Stealth and Expanse. All this is achieved without neglecting the E3's portability, making it a compact and comfortable travel companion.
Furthermore, in addition to all its advances in sound quality and wearing comfort, the E3 is also aesthetically pleasing. It boasts a minimalist finish using Gorilla Glass 3 technology, a thin sheet of alkali-aluminosilicate that makes the glass stiffer and more resistant to scratches and breakage than conventional glass compositions.
" With E3, Dan Clark once again exemplifies complying with the latest research into proper frequency response of a headphone while at the same time innovating with design and performance. The headphone sounds accurate while being very enjoyable. With the cost being half of Stealth and sound potentially even more pleasing (combined with ease of drive), the E3 is even a more exciting development. "
