As Meze Audio's first open-back dynamic headphone, the 109 Pro demonstrates the brand's commitment to going beyond faithful sound reproduction to deliver pure emotion. As such, this new model once again features the most meticulous and careful design to deliver a truly immersive, dynamic and detailed music experience.
With the 109 Pro, Meze relies on tried and true fundamentals. However, the new 50mm dynamic driver developed by the brand allows the headphones to push back many limits, especially in terms of responsiveness, precision and dynamic range.
In order to achieve its goals for the 109 Pro's acoustics, Meze has focused its R&D on speaker materials. This began with the design of a diaphragm that struck a perfect balance between rigidity and mass. This is how the 109 Pro's diaphragm came to be, made of a composite material, a combination of a beryllium-plated polymer and a fiber made of cellulose and carbon.
The perimeter of the diaphragm is covered with a stabilizing ring made of copper-zinc alloy, which absorbs vibrations and helps to reduce distortion.
Alongside these two elements is a lightweight, high-performance neodymium magnet and a copper coil, encapsulated in a CNC-machined aluminum chassis.
Made from a carbon fiber-reinforced cellulose composite, the W-shaped dome is capable of accurately reproducing high frequencies for a detailed and clear sound. More durable than conventional alternatives used in dynamic speakers, yet lightweight, this composite helps reduce resonances that could lead to harmonic distortion.
The ultra-thin torus surrounding the dome is made of a semi-crystalline polymer coated with beryllium and is only 22 microns thick. By applying the beryllium using the Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process, Meze aims to increase the rigidity and durability of the driver, while keeping it light enough to achieve a fast transient response. These qualities are reinforced by the splines on the torus, precisely cut at a 45.5° angle.
The copper-zinc alloy stabilizer, positioned around the diaphragm, provides effective vibration absorption to minimize distortion.
The diaphragm is encapsulated in an aluminum chassis with the neodymium magnet. Machined with a CNC (numerical control), this chassis offers excellent rigidity and thermal stability.
Carefully tuned by Meze engineers, the 109 Pro's speakers deliver clear, detailed sound with just the right amount of punch for a captivating musical and emotional experience. Its organic character, combined with great dynamics and a beautiful soundstage, brings your music to life like never before. Plus, the 109 Pro will work seamlessly with most devices, whether they're portable sources or fixed installations.
The spider-like structure and acoustically transparent grille expose the speaker from both sides, creating the most open Meze headphone design to date. Following the fundamental principles of anthropometry, the speaker was positioned at a precise angle and distance from the ear to achieve a perfect anatomical fit.
Velvet ear cushions surround the ears comfortably, providing an optimal seal to create a natural sound. Because velvet is much softer and more breathable than leather, it also prevents sweating and heating during long listening sessions. The self-adjusting headband distributes the weight of the earpieces evenly over the head.
