Bit-perfect, it turns any conventional audio system into a connected one, thanks to its WiFi and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. This streamer also supports Apple Airplay and DLNA wireless transmission protocols, and includes a Chromecast. Featuring audiophile components such as a Burr Brown PCM5121 DAC chip supporting high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 384kHz, it will open the doors to the world of streaming whether you use Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Qobuz or Amazon Music. The WiiM Pro acts as a gateway between your various sources and a DAC or amplifier. The WiiM Pro's optical inputs also allow you to connect your TV or video game console to enjoy a sound experience via your audio system. It can be controlled from an app on your smartphone or via a remote control (sold separately) to make the Wiim Pro user experience even more comfortable.
On the front of the WiiM Pro, there are 4 pictograms for touch control:
Presets can be configured via the smartphone control application, giving you direct access to your favorite playlist or online radio station, for example.
On the rear of the WiiM Pro, you'll find a full range of connectors, including an analog RCA input, an optical Toslink input and an RJ45 Ethernet port. Outputs include a coaxial SPDIF output, a Toslink optical output and an analog RCA output. Not forgetting the 12V trigger on the 2.5mm jack, the built-in microphone for control via voice assistant and the USB-C power connector.
The WiiM Pro is made up of three separate PCBs, corresponding to the digital processing circuit, the analog processing circuit and a PCB for the touch-sensitive buttons on the front panel. A closer look reveals an Everest ES7243 analog-to-digital conversion chip (192kHz ADC), as well as a TI Burr Brown PCM5121 DAC chip, a Realtek ethernet interface chip and a 4-core Amlogic microprocessor with 4Gb RAM, enabling it to deliver high-quality sound reproduction whatever the audio source.
The WiiM Home control app is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Once installed, it gives you access to every conceivable music source, whether via your computer, your local NAS server or a variety of online streaming and radio services.
For his test of the WiiM Pro, Hans Beekhuyzen used three configurations to test the device's limits. Overall, in his opinion, the WiiM Pro is an excellent network player for its price, with a fine stereo image and good low-frequency resolution. However, despite its high quality, the WiiM Pro can reach certain limits if used with a very high-end audio system. In conclusion, Hans simply states that the WiiM Pro sounds much better than its price would suggest. It achieves the performance of some much more expensive units, while being highly versatile and easy to integrate into a Hi-Fi system.
