SMSL is a renowned manufacturer of Hi-Fi products. Over the years, the brand has managed to innovate and maintain a high level of quality across its entire product range, thanks to its research and development (R&D) center. Audiophiles particularly appreciate SMSL for the technical capabilities and performance of their products, which remain affordable when compared to products from other brands with similar features. Today, SMSL offers its classic range as well as a top-of-the-range SMSL VMV line, both of which comprise numerous product types: DACs, amplifiers, headphone amplifiers, CD players, speakers and digital interfaces. Enough to meet all your needs and high standards.
SMSL has made its DAC range its flagship by developing a line of high-performance, relatively affordable products. In fact, each of its DACs incorporates market-recognized components whose performance is no longer in question: latest-generation AKM and ESS chips, XMOS USB interface, latest-generation Qualcomm Bluetooth chip, etc. Most SMSL DACs are therefore able to support very high-resolution 32bit 768kHz streams and native DSD up to DSD512. Most are also equipped with headphone amplification. Aesthetically, the brand's products are simple, refined and modern, with aluminum cases and often beautifully designed screens.
You will find our non-exhaustive selection of SMSL DACs here:
SMSL SU-X: The latest arrival, the SU-X is a state-of-the-art DAC. Featuring a symmetrical design, it integrates 2 ES9039MSPRO chips and supports streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD512 and MQA/MQA-CD. Its components are integrated into an elegant case, and it features a large IPS color display in tempered glass.
SMSL DL300: The DL300 integrates the famous AKM AK4499 + AK4191 chip combo, enabling it to decode streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD512 and MQA/MQA-CD. It also features two amplified headphone outputs, a Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.1 reception chip and an IPS display.
SMSL D400 Pro: Also incorporating the AKM AK4499 + AK4191 chip combo, it supports PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD512 and MQA/MQA-CD streams. Like the SU-X and DL300, it offers a wide range of connections, but lacks headphone amplifier functionality. However, Bluetooth reception and an IPS display are available, and its casing boasts elegant curves.
SMSL VMV D2R: The D2R is part of the brand's high-end line, as evidenced by the high-end aesthetics of its case and color IPS screen. This DAC embeds a ROHM BD34301 conversion chip for exceptional measurements, including a THD +N measured at -117dB. This model therefore focuses on performance, while retaining a wide range of connectors.

SMSL's amplifier range is a little more affordable than its DACs, but no less high quality, since most of them incorporate recognized and extremely well-measured amplifier chips. The range will satisfy a wide variety of power requirements, from 2x 25W to over 2x 200W. In the early days, the brand focused on FDA amplification technology, while today it designs Class D amplifiers for powerful, high-efficiency performance. You'll find Infineon or Texas Instrument chips in most of these amplifiers.
You will find our non-exhaustive selection of SMSL amplifier here:
SMSL DA1: This small amplifier features the essentials, with 2x 25W of power at 4 ohms, thanks to a TI TPA3118 chip and connectors consisting exclusively of a stereo RCA input and an output on speaker terminals. An anti-POP speaker protection circuit completes the package.
SMSL AO300: The AO300 is one of the SMSL amplifiers featuring an Infineon MA5332MS chip delivering 2x 160W at 4 ohms. Extremely versatile, it also features a CS43131 DAC chip and an XMOS XU316 USB interface, enabling it to support high-resolution streams via its digital inputs. Two headphone outputs and a subwoofer output make it suitable for all types of use. As you can see, the AO300 is an all-in-one amplifier!
SMSL AO200 MKII: A sort of cousin to the AO300, the AO200 MKII features two Infineon MA5332MS amplifier chips for 2x 160W power at 4 ohms. It benefits from a balanced XLR analog input, but more limited digital connectivity, with only a USB-A input. Headphone amplification is also not available on this model. The AO200 MKII is therefore intended for users wishing to benefit from a balanced XLR input.
SMSL AL200: In the same spirit, the AL200 delivers 2x 160W of power at 4 ohms with its Infineon MA5332MS chip, and supports high-resolution streams thanks to a CS43131 DAC chip, an XMOS XU316 USB interface and an integrated MQA decoder. It has a more modern look than the AO200 MKII, but lacks the balanced XLR input, as well as the HDMI I2S input and subwoofer output of the AO300. On the other hand, there are some handy digital inputs, such as USB-C, Toslink optical and coaxial SPDIF. As for outputs, the AO300 gets straight to the point, with speaker terminals and a 6.35mm headphone output.
If you need an amplifier with a different power level, there are a few models to complete our selection. In order of power, for example, there's the DA-6 and AO100, both with 2x 70W @ 4 ohm power in class D, the DA-9 balanced amplifier with 2x 90W under 4 ohm in class D, the SMSL VMV A2 FDA with 2x 200W of power and the SA400 capable of developing a power of 2x 230W!
