Discover Audio Science Review's test of the MPA-S250NC power amplifier. This power amplifier, available in RCA and XLR versions, is a Class D stereo amplifier based on a Hypex Ncore NC252MP module. This module enables it to develop a power of up to 2x 250W at 4 ohms and 2x 150W at 8 ohms, offering a considerable power reserve while maintaining a THD+N of 0.0015% and an efficiency of 92%. The whole unit is powered by an SMPS power supply integrated into the NC252MP module for stable, clean current. Connections include speaker terminals on the output, a 12V trigger on a 3.5mm jack, and a choice of RCA or XLR input depending on the version.

In terms of noise and distortion (SINAD), the MPA-S250NC is well above average.
Noise performance is excellent.
A flat curve over the audible frequency range and no load dependency, which is very good for a Class D amplifier.
Very good performance, despite the fact that both channels are handled by the same module.
Very low noise and distortion for a maximum power of 190W.
Significant power, approaching the announced power.
Effective at 4 and 8 ohm loads, but ineffective at 2 ohm.
The amplifier is fairly light and compact for the level of power it offers. The power switch is pleasant to use, and the quality of the rear connectors rivals many more expensive amplifiers.
"Audiophonics has produced one adorable stereo amplifier! I just want to sit there and look at it.
