This passive attenuator uses a precision resistor which is connected in parallel with a mechanical 1% SMD resistor switch.  This resistor is connected to the potentiometer, which, depending on its position, connects the output more or less to ground and thus varies the volume.

It is therefore the R-In resistor that conditions the minimum input impedance, when the potentiometer is on the 0 position. A true jewel of audio goldsmithing, this magnificent 48-position stereo attenuator is entirely assembled by hand in Europe. It is composed of 1% SMD resistors and a CNC machined aluminium body which gives it a very high end design. This type of potentiometer is clearly superior to carbon track potentiometers because the signal only passes through 2 resistors. Wear and tear is also much less important.
