AUDIOPHONICS Digipi+AES TOSLINK TCXO Digital Interface AES/EBU for Raspberry Pi

This interface extends the capabilities of your Raspberry Pi by adding a range of digital audio output. It includes an optical output (SPDIF) with a connector already mounted, a coaxial output (SPDIF, this one has to be mounted with an RCA connector - not included) and an AES / EBU XLR already mounted with a Neutrik connector. Thanks to DigiPï + interface and a software solution (Moode for example) your Raspberry Pi can become a true high-fidelity network drive.

Audiophonics DigiPi +

Digital interface for Raspberry Pi AES / EBU & Optical

Interface digipi plus

Warning: this interface needs a Raspberry Pi 4 or Raspberry Pi 3B / 3B + to run. This piece is not provided.

Raspberry_Pi_3B+_1.jpg

This interface extends the capabilities of your Raspberry Pi by adding a range of digital audio output. It includes an optical output (SPDIF) with a connector already mounted, a coaxial output (SPDIF, this one has to be mounted with an RCA connector - not included) and an AES / EBU XLR already mounted with a Neutrik connector. Thanks to DigiPï + interface and a software solution (Moode for example) your Raspberry Pi can become a true high-fidelity network drive.

The interconnection between your Raspberry Pi and digital interface is directly I2S-based for increased performance and respect of the audio signal. This type of protocol limits indeed the need for successive signal conversions and manages high sampling rate (up to 192kHz).

The DigiPi + is compatible with multiple softwares (PiCore, Volumio, Moode...etc)  thanks to HiFiBerry Digi Driver. Those are free xtremely comprehensive software solutions based Raspberry Pi with many features to enrich playback and potentiate the rest of your audio system. This software environment has been developped especially for this type of hardware and each part will be able to function to the best of its potential.

To operate correctly, the DigiPi+ needs to use the HiFiBerry Digi and Digi+ driver.

AES / EBU and SPDIF on Raspberry Pi

This digital interface is one of the few on the SBC market to offer an AES / EBU XLR output. This greatly opens the possibilities of integration regarding solutions based on RPI. It is a good way to associate your player / mediacenter with very advanced devices favoring AES / EBU standard.

Naturally, the DigiPi + has traditional digital connectors rigor, such as a SPDIF Optical connector.

Il est également possible d'ajouter une connectique coaxiale en soudant un connecteur RCA aux pastilles indiquées dans le schéma ci-dessous.

WM8804G & Clock TCXO Interface

The interface works with a digital chip WM8804G. It is connected to a Raspberry Pi via I2S GPIO and accuracy of the digital stream is provided by a 27MHz TCXO clock Audiophonics 0.5ppm.

With this configuration, the interface is capable of handling sample rates up to 24bit / 192kHz with a distortion rate and minimal jitter (50ps).

A power supply that suits your needs

To give you the whole attitude to make the best decision in terms of power supply, DigiPi + interface can comply with different power configuration.

We can therefore supply the interface and the Raspberry Pi via Jack 5.5x2.5mm DC input. The opposite is equally feasible and can interface will be powered by the Raspberry Pi via GPIO.

A third configuration is to use two alimenations simultaneously. Each element (DigiPi + and Raspberry Pi) is powered independently, which considerably limits the food-related interference.

Hey, it works!
Perfect for a headless Plexamp pi feeding a Genelec SAM system! :-)

The missing star is for lack of documentation and a little for lack of a suitable case. Stole the idea to use a low profile passive heatsink case from Geekworm and cannibalize their acrylic plate "case" for a hood and bits, Works, but the hat still remains pretty exposed.

What's actually needed to get it working: 'dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi'.

Can't figure out (with enough certainty, not going to guess) where/how to wire a coax S/PDIF output; Really should be documented here.

AES / EBU HAT RPI
I paired this with a Pi4b streamer running Moode in a Argon M2 case with a Funk AES cable connected to a Gustard X18. Listening between USB2 and USB3 BT LDAC with very good cables the AES was a quantum leap. Sound stage a meter wider, bass clean and forceful, mids just sweet, highs crystal clear, high hats some I hadn't heard on tracks I'd listen to 100 times before. No hint of digital sound or tinny sounding, an absolute upgrade and at an excellent price. For the M2 case and HAT I needed 2 PSUs but it was all set up on Moode in a few minutes.Top product, thanks Audiophonics for the great service as well.

Really good product
I work with professional Broadcast equipment with AES/EBU input and with this product I now have a small battery operated media player with AES/EBU output. Very practical to have for testing and repairing equipment or just listening to music when You are working :-)

Great sound and easy to install.
Very Happy with this HAT, connecting through AES/EBU connector with my Onkyo P3000R pre-amplifier. I installed Ropieee on my Raspbery Pi3B+ and this combination works great with Roon.

Cheers Jan
