More info

Here is a modern converter allowing to have a quality analog output from any I2S source (for example a Raspberry PI or other SOC with I2S outputs included).

Based on a PCM5102A capable of converting sampling rates up to 32 bit / 384 kHz it will allow you to realize very simply a high-end audio player at very low price.

Although intended to be used with a PI nothing prohibits to consider its use in I2S by means of an interface like Amanero, XMOS, CM6631A etc ...

Features:

  • Texas Instruments PCM 5102 A Converter (SNR: 112 db, Distortion -93dB)
  • Inputs: I2S (Select justification by jumper (left justified).)
  • Power Supply: 5V - 10V DC
  • Outputs: Stereo RCA (2.1 V rms to 1K ohm)
  • PCB Dimensions: 48 x 48mm
  • Center distance: 43 x 43mm
  • Weight: 20g

Works a treat
I used this DAC with an old Raspberry PI-1B I had lying around. I'm very pleased with the resulting sound (pioneer amp and 80s-era KEF speakers).

Unlike later RPI models, the necessary I2S connections to the RPI-1B (Version 2) are made not via its 26 GPIO pins. Where to make the connections is very clear from he DAC documentation/schematic (on the audiophonics website). Rather than soldering wires directly to the RPI PCB, I soldered a "2.54mm Separable Male Pin Header 2x4 Pins 5.5mm (Unit)" to the RPI and connected this to the DAC using "I2S 2.54mm Female / Female Cable 1 Pole Silicone 17cm (x5)". All really easy.

i2s dac for raspberry pi
I had an old unused raspberry pi (version 1b!) and wanted to create a squeezebox client. This needed a few small changes to the board - soldering on a header - but after that was a simple matter of following the instructions to connect the correct pins. The sound is excellent! Also very impressed with Audiophonics service - there was a small part missing in the order which was very kindly posted out to me - merci!

Excellent DAC polyvalent non dédié au Raspberry PI
Bonjour,
