AKM AK4497 DAC
With this second version of the S6 series, Aune offers us a DAC and headphone amplifier combo based on the excellent AK4497 conversion chip from AKM. The device has a relevant and qualitative connectivity for an irreproachable integration in your audio system.
A 32bit DAC allows access to very high resolution files. The USB input supports PCM up to 32bit 768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512. The Coaxial input and the AES input support PCM up to 24bit 384kHz and DSD up to DoP128. Finally, the Optical input can read files up to PCM 24bit 192kHz and DSD DoP64.
Each channel constituting the stereophony benefits from its own preamplification circuit. This ensures excellent signal stability on the balanced and unbalanced outputs, with a well-defined sound stage. The unit was measured at -132dB crosstalk with a harmonic distortion rate (THD @ 1kHz) of 0.0005%, a dynamic range of 119dB and a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 118dB.
Headphone amplifier
The S6 Pro combines one of the most powerful DAC models with an amplifier circuit built around a proven preamplifier/headphone channel. The headphone amplification stage leads to an unbalanced 6.35mm jack output on the front panel as well as a balanced XLR 4-pin output.
The balanced XLR output delivers up to 405mW of power at 300Ω, while the unbalanced 6.35mm jack output is capable of outputting 120mW at equivalent load. A large power reserve that allows you to power demanding headphones.
Connectics
With an impressive array of connectivity options, the S6 Pro is equipped with an AES/EBU digital input, a Coaxial port and an Optical input. The USB-B port will connect the S6 Pro to a computer or even an OTG compatible smartphone/tablet to enjoy the rest of the system in the blink of an eye without sacrificing audio quality.
On the output side, the S6 Pro offers the option between unbalanced stereo RCA and balanced stereo XLR for its line outputs. On the headphone output side, the unit offers an asymmetrical 6.35mm jack and a balanced 4-pin XLR.
