The DX3 Pro from Topping performs both DAC and headphone amplifier functions. While it already offers excellent results when connected to a digital source via cable or Bluetooth, several operating modes also allow it to be integrated into more complex chains.

Its classic use is that of a DAC + headphone amplifier. An additional line output is available and makes it possible to connect to analog devices such as active speakers. Conversely, it is also possible to disable the preamplifier stage, which allows the DAC to be isolated and an external preamplifier to be operated.

High-Fidelity Components

Definitely designed for high fidelity, the DX3 Pro incorporates components known for their audio performance. As a USB interface, an XMOS U208 chip drives a USB input equipped with high-frequency digital stream support and native DSD compatibility.

The digital to analog conversion is performed by a 32-bit AK4493EQ chip pair. This modernized version of the must-have AK4490EQ benefits from a more advantageous distortion rate and signal-to-noise ratio than its parent, while retaining all the technologies that have made it so successful. In addition, there is the famous Velvet Sound with increasingly accurate digital filters.

An OPA1612 operational amplifier, high precision and low harmonic distortion. The latter is illustrated by its very low electronic noise (1.1-nV/√Hz) and a distortion rate (0.000015% @1kHz). This AOP model offers above all a 600mV output signal excursion under a load of 2 kΩ, it will thus be able to drive most of the advanced headphones while offering controlled dynamics, a stable gain and an ideal power reserve to bring out the full spatial depth of your high definition music.

Connectivity

The DX3 Pro is equipped with a 32bit768kHz USB input (XMOS U208), two Coaxial inputs and a 24bit192kHz Optical input (AK4493EQ). At the output, the Topping DX3 has a 3.5mm jack and a line output. The output stage develops 2x1000mW @ 32Ω or 2x125mW @ 300Ω. The dematerialized connection is not to be outdone since the device is equipped with a Bluetooth receiver with SBC, ACC, aptX, aptX II, aptX HD support.

Included remote control

The Topping DAC DX3 is supplied with its remote control. Sober and compact, the latter offers to navigate in the tracks, adjust the volume, change the output, filters, etc. This remote control holder makes it one of the few devices to combine a DAC & Preamplifier / Headphone Amplifier function with remote control in this price range.
