HIFIMAN EF499 Headphone Amplifier R2R DAC
HiFiMAN's EF499 is a DAC and headphone amplifier. It offers warm sound from R2R digital/analogue conversion and an output level of 4.35W at 32Ω, enabling it to drive a wide range of headphones. Its extensive connectivity makes it a highly flexible device, capable of fitting into a wide range of configurations.
HiFiMAN EF499: R2R conversion
For the EF499's digital/analogue conversion stage, HiFiMAN has chosen an R2R ladder resistor network. This 100% analogue conversion method produces a naturally warm sound, very close to the Hymalaya DAC, and as such, very close to the brand's characteristic sound. You can also choose whether or not to activate a NOS (Non-oversampling) mode.

Moreover, in addition to R2R conversion, the EF499 offers amplification of 4.35W into 32Ω in balanced output and 1.28W into 32Ω in single-ended output. Furthermore, two gain settings are also available, enough to drive the vast majority of headphones on the market, including the most demanding high-impedance ones.
HiFiMAN EF499: Excellent connectivity
The EF499 from HiFiMAN offers a range of connections for great flexibility in use, thanks in particular to the digital inputs available. In addition to a coaxial input, the EF499 offers a USB-B and USB-C input as well as an RJ45 input, allowing you to connect a router, for example. On the output side, in addition to the 4-pin XLR and 6.35mm jack headphone outputs available on the front panel, a 3-pin stereo XLR and stereo RCA output are also available on the rear panel, allowing you to use it as a DAC and preamplifier in conjunction with a power amplifier.
