Balanced headphone DAC & Amplifier TPA6120A2 AK4497 32bit 768kHz DSD512
The SMSL M10 is intended to be a versatile HiFi device, integrating both a DAC and a headphone amplifier. It integrates excellent components into a beautiful housing to ensure high performance. Versatile and efficient, it is a device that will adapt to most audio systems for high quality playback and listening.
The M10 conversion stage is based on an excellent AK4497 chip from Asahi Kasei. This supports streams up to 32bit 768kHz but also DSD up to DSD512. You'll enjoy high quality files and rich, detailed sound reproduction. In addition, this chip incorporates the proprietary Velvet Sound™ technology that offers a very low level of distortion but also a wide dynamic range. It also incorporates "OSR Doubler" switched capacitor circuits to minimize noise while reducing power consumption.
On the headphone amplification side, there are two TPA6120A2 chips in a symmetrical mounting with volume control allowing perfect synchronization of the left and right channels. These chips are capable of delivering a wide frequency response while maintaining extremely low noise and a dynamic range up to 128dB. These chips also assert themselves by a high scanning speed in order to limit distortion and the appearance of sound anomalies, its ability to deliver the current adapted according to situations, for a beautiful linearity and dynamics without increasing the noise or degradation of the SNR and finally its frequency response independent of the gain allowing to use the wide frequency response allowed by these amplifiers whatever the gain.
The M10 offers full connectivity to fit the vast majority of audio systems. The SPDIF Coaxial and Optical as well as the USB Type B are used as inputs. On the output side, the device has on its front panel two headphone outputs in 6.35mm Jack and XLR 4 pole balanced format. On its rear panel the DAC / Amplifier offers unbalanced RCA stereo output and balanced XLR output.
While the amplification and conversion chips show great performance, the rest of the components are not left out with excellent design quality. This includes a Norwegian Noratel brand transformer with a clean power supply and an anti-vibration chassis. The M10 also features 5 AOP OPA1602, a very low phase noise clock coupled to a CPLD for a drastically lowered jitter and finally, for USB, an excellent XMOS interface supporting sampling rates up to 32bit 768kHz and DSD512.
The housing, made entirely of anodized aluminium, is CNC-machined, i.e. an ultra-precise computer-controlled machine. This makes it possible to obtain a smooth rendering, each angle being cut with the greatest precision. The M10 also features a slightly sloping front panel, giving it a distinctive appearance but also offering greater ease of use. The screen allows him to display the various information of the device such as the active source, the sampling rate of the file read or the volume. A remote control is also provided for convenient remote control.
