Topping A30
Headphone amp / preamplifier - OPA2134 / OPA1611 / TPA6120A2
Topping's A30 is a small headphone amplifier / preamplifier that will delight headphone users. With two headphone outputs with different impedances, adjustable gain and a various power profiles (high / low / off) it can work with numerous types of headphones.
Its amplification stage is based on OPA1611 and OPA2134. The latter can be changed thanks to a removable support that will allows the user to test different sounds restitution while enjoying a precise, clear sound with a large sound stage.
Headphone amplifier
Incorporating an amplification circuit based on a TPA6120A2 chip, Topping's A30 has a class AB architecture (feedback current) able to address a wide bandwidth with minimal noise and high dynamic range (126dB).
Every component used in amplification is mounted on its own heatsink in order to prevent overheating and to ensure no disturbance in the sound amplification.
The A30 has two separate headphone outputs. One is 3.5mm format and the other 6.35mm. Both headphone outputs have a different impedance. This enables the user to try numerous headphone models with very different specifications without getting close to the limits of this equipment.
The device also has two operating modes (high-voltage / low voltage on the input signal) and three upstream gain options. With these options, one can find the best compromise for confortable listening volume, the right amount of gain and low distorsion.
Preamplifier
With both RCA input and input on the back of the housing, the A30 can also fulfill a function of preamplifier with hardware volume control.
It benefits from the presence of powerful and precise operational amplifiers (OPA1611 OPA2134 &). In addition, TI OPA2134 is mounted on DIP-8 support (removable), which will allow anyone to experiment with different sound restitutions and eventually rediscover its favorite sound.
The hardware volume control is made possible thanks to an ALPS potentiometer. These are particuluèrement appreciated in the audio world for their precision, their respect for the sound and their reliability.
Linear power supply
In order to effectively isolate the audio signal from the intrinsic noise of an electrical appliance working, the A30 is equipped with a separate linear power supply.
The mains transformer delivers 2x15V devoted solely to the audio portion, while another secondary output provides 1x8V to all other components that do not directly affect the sound output: LEDs, some logic circuits, relays .. . This approach allows to use only one cable while separating the noise sources from the sound in the circuit. Outsourcing the linear transformer also keeps the transformer physically distant from the amplifiers to avoid magnetic leakage from causing interference. This approach also contributes to the management of thermal issues.
The A30 uses WIMA capacitors for coupling. These components allow to refine the overall performance of the device.
