IFI AUDIO IDEFENDER MAX Anti Ground Loop Filter USB-C

The iFi Audio iDefender MAX cancels noise caused by ground loops in your audio system. The inevitable use of several plugs and cables in your HiFi installation means that there are several ground points, which can cause ground loop problems and therefore interference, distortion and noise. The iDefenderMAX is an effective bulwark against this problem.

Its simple but formidable operation enables it to automatically detect the presence of a ground loop when connected to a USB source such as a computer. It then breaks this ground loop by disconnecting the computer's ground, while suppressing the noise generated, lowering background noise and improving sound definition and dynamics.

In this version, the iDefender MAX has a female USB-C input, a male USB-C output, as well as an additional USB-C port for connecting an external power supply (optional and sold separately) for use with a USB DAC. Finally, this version also has an aluminium chassis for total electromagnetic protection.

If you're using the iDefender MAX with a USB DAC powered from a computer, rather than from a mains adapter or built-in battery, then the iFi Audio system offers an extra benefit. If an external power supply is plugged into the iDefender MAX's side USB-C socket, then the iDefender MAX blocks the power from your computer and provides your DAC with its own power signal from the external power supply. In this way, you can combine the iDefender MAX with a high-quality, low-noise external power supply to maximise the performance of your USB DAC.

It is possible to inject a 5V/5A power supply via an external low-noise power supply, using the USB-C port on the side. This allows the USB power supply from the PC to be blocked and replaced by a power supply providing a clean signal. It's also an excellent way of breaking ground loops on a USB-powered DAC.
