This Ladder DAC module offers a very high quality design, with an R2R conversion stage, using one Altera MAX II CPLD per channel, associated with a long series of resistors. This parallel architecture allows an excellent separation of the channels, thus limiting the potential interferences. The result is a reproduction marked by deep bass, well-defined midrange and precise highs.

The output stage of the module is equipped with no less than four RC5534A AOPs per channel, mounted on DIP8 and therefore easily interchangeable to adapt the sound reproduction of the card to an audio system or listening preferences.

The input of the module is in I2S, on a 4 pins connector. For the output, the DAC provides single-ended RCA and balanced XLR.

Veramente Soddisfatto
Presa per prova, devo dire che ne sono rimasto estremamente soddisfatto, facile da montare, bisogna solo avere molta attenzione all'alimentazione che deve essere molto pulita.

Taken for testing, I must say that I was extremely satisfied with it, easy to assemble, you just need to pay close attention to the power supply which must be very clean.

100u Capacitors upgrade
I revise my initial review. After the cap upgrade with 100u quality parts the frequency response greatly improved. If you consider this board exchange of the series capacitors (signal path) is mandatory. But you will not regret it, the result is pretty impressive. Will keep me satisfied for a while ;)

Not great out of the box
Compared to the internal DAC of my Hegel H95 it was clearly lacking in the bass region. Investigating further it seems that the WIMA capacitors (1.5u) are in series on the signal path although one would have imagined a balanced design would not need such a capacitance. I have ordered 100u/250V audio capacitors to see what the difference would be. Also the design does not use buffers to drive the R2R section as other boards so this could also have a impact. Will come back after the upgrade. For now not very satisfied.

Good but too expensive
I bought the module at Audiophonics, because I thought the same on Ebay is may be a cheap china fake. But it's the same module! At Audiophonics the Company Logo is removed from the product photos. But on the delivered module it is printed the same way as the one on Ebay/from China. On Audiophonics it is 100€ more than ebay... The sound is great and the manufacturing quality is good. So it's your choice how much you would like to pay. But I think on Audiophonics the price is too high. I am disappointed the the same module is round about 62% offered more expensive on Audiophonics.

This DAC module is a giant killer
Installed one of these R2R DACs today, coupled with Linear PSU and I2S direct from Raspberry PI 4.
After 4-5 hours playing, it is actually comparable with Denafrips Pontus 2, only diff is as thread starter mentions Pontus 2 is cleaner, probably because of all that power filtering. In the future I will add more capacitance to the PSU and see if that makes a different. Else it is a bargain. Make your own and pay 10 times less.

This replaced a Denafrips Ares 2 and no regrets.
More air, details, natural tone and off course no Delta Sigma harsness.
