Speaker Driver Subwoofer DVC MMAG Carbon Fiber 200W 8 Ohm 83dB 30Hz - 4000Hz Ø14cm
Combining excellent performance with a reasonable price, the Epique E150HE-44 Carbon Fiber Diaphragm subwoofer sets a new standard for versatility, distortion and response for small speakers. This dual-coil driver uses a patented MMAG dual-gap motor assembly for unmatched linear excursion capability to create compact systems with deeper bass and lower distortion than ever before.
Featuring a carbon fiber cone, dual voice coil, custom surround, FEA optimized motor, cast aluminum frame, large air vents and perfect induction control, the E150HE-44 pushes the limits of a 7" subwoofer.
At the core of the E150HE-44 is a patented MMAG (Multiple Magnet Air Gap) dual motor. This unique design uses two top plates spaced between six smaller magnets, creating a longer magnetic gap with more consistent flux than more common dual-gap designs. The combination of the MMAG motor and coil gives the E150HE-44 zero loss of motor force (Bl), even when driven at 10mm excursion, and an overall excursion capability of over 14mm (at 70% Bl). This incredible excursion capability allows for extremely low harmonic and intermodulation distortion to ensure a remarkably clean output even when driven to high output levels. In addition, the motor includes extensive induction control to reduce coil inductance (Le) and improve high frequency response.
The rigid carbon fiber cone gives the E150HE-44 a unique design while offering a number of performance advantages. With one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any material available, carbon fiber minimizes moving mass, allowing for extended low frequencies without sacrificing efficiency. The woven diaphragm has excellent damping properties that control unwanted resonances for a smooth response up to 4000Hz. The optimized profiles of this diaphragm and the dust cap ensure that there is no distortion when exposed to high stresses, so that smooth response and low distortion remain constant, even at high output levels. Finally, the outer edge of the cone has been reinforced to better control cone breakup and help maintain a controlled off-axis dispersion.
When designing the E150HE-44, Dayton Audio paid particular attention to optimizing the surround to ensure unrestricted excursion without limiting performance. The wide-roller rubber surround was custom-machined for high linear excursion, while paying special attention to the profile to avoid limiting off-axis dispersion. A threaded inner edge adds additional damping to the cone while reducing surround reflections to improve high frequency response. A large diameter progressive spider helps maintain diaphragm linearity when pushed to high excursion. In addition, tinsel wires have been woven into the spider on opposite sides to keep the mass and compliance evenly displaced across the spider.
Excessive heat buildup will increase resistance and result in severe power compression or even failure. To force air through the coil and keep the assembly cooled, the E150HE-44 has an efficient cooling system. Another advantage of the MMAG motor design is the open space between the magnets, which allows consistent airflow directly into the center of the magnetic gap. With this open arrangement, cool air is delivered directly to the coil to remove heat more efficiently. The E150HE-44 also incorporates a vented coil, three large peripheral vents and free airflow under the spider to ensure that every component has airflow through it to keep temperatures to a minimum, even under heavy use for long periods.
To support its massive motor assembly while providing a solid mounting surface, the E150HE-44 uses a sturdy cast aluminum frame. The minimalist frame design eliminates unwanted reflections and provides ample airflow to the rear of the diaphragm. With plenty of space behind the spider, the E150HE-44 offers a wide excursion capability. Being a non-magnetic material, the aluminum frame has no effect on the magnetic field, allowing the motor to operate effortlessly. In addition, aluminum is an excellent thermal conductor, making it easy to cool.
