If you need a large air displacement for excellent SPL bass response, the Dayton Audio PSS545HE-4 subwoofer is for you, outperforming most high-performance subwoofers in the industry. This massive driver is capable of a linear excursion of 21mm in each direction (@ 70% BL, verified by Klippel) allowing a displacement of 7L. But a large air displacement is not enough. High power handling and high efficiency are also indispensable. Thus, this subwoofer supports RMS power up to 2000W and has a sensitivity of 97.7dB, allowing it to deliver very deep bass.
The PSS545HE-4 is designed to reproduce extremely low frequencies at high powers for long periods of time. To prevent breakage and extend the life of the subwoofer, Dayton Audio incorporates an OEP (Over-Excursion Protection) system that audibly alerts you if the speaker's limits are reached. It is therefore designed to accompany you for many years of listening.
The Dayton Audio PSSS545HE-4 is powered by a high-energy dual ferrite motor. Unlike Neodymium magnets, ferrite magnets are capable of delivering a constant motor force, even in high heat to keep compression to a minimum. The coil is placed in a fiberglass support that can withstand extreme temperatures to accept power up to 2000W RMS without any problem. A large opening on the pole piece, 6 peripheral vents and many others between the salad bowl and the field plate allow a large air flow through the coil to further reduce the compression caused by the increase in resistance due to heat. This allows the PSS545HE-4 to provide a constant low-frequency output, even when pushed at extreme sound pressure levels for long periods of time.
Dayton Audio first designed this loudspeaker for demanding professional environments. The naturally damped paper cone is optimized and reinforced to withstand the stresses of large linear excursions without deforming. To keep this under control, the PSS545He-4 uses two large-diameter, widely-spaced spiders to ensure perfect linearity. A quadruple suspension allows for high linear excursion even at very high levels. A massive cast aluminum bowl keeps everything in place without restricting airflow. Push-button terminals allow an efficient and secure connection.
