With the arrival of the new Bluetooth LE standard, the bottleneck in the sound quality of true wireless earphones is no longer the wireless transmission protocol, but a series of problems caused by the hardware requirements of the earphones themselves, such as limited component space or the energy consumption associated with a small battery. With their Golden Ages true wireless earphones, Moondrop provides an answer thanks to a 13mm wideband super-linear planar magnetic driver combined with a double annular suspension developed by Moondrop.
This new 13mm driver developed by Moondrop is based on planar magnetic technology, combining a diaphragm with a magnetic circuit made up of multiple high-performance N55 neodymium magnets and a transmission circuit, all in a annular shape. The result is a much more responsive dynamic range than a dynamic driver, while sound distortion is considerably reduced thanks to a double suspension system and the addition of a rigid equalization structure. Moreover, the Moondrop-developed driver delivers crystal-clear sound reproduction, with energy conversion efficiency 4x greater than a similarly-sized dynamic driver, and 10x greater than a conventional 14.5mm planar magnetic driver.
The LC3 encoding and decoding protocol supporting the new generation Bluetooth LE Audio, when paired with devices that are also compatible with standard LC3,such as Golden Ages earphones, achieves not only much lower latency than traditional Bluetooth but also excellent high-fidelity signal transmission. Golden Ages supports the widely used LDAC high-definition lossless audio transmission protocol, which can transmit 24 bits/96 kHz at bit rates as high as 990kbps, thus fully meeting the dynamic range and broadband requirements of the hardware.
Moondrop Golden Ages wireless earphones feature two modes: noise reduction and transparency. The former reduces background noise by 35bB while preserving low frequencies, thanks to an innovative approach to noise reduction based solely on external sounds, rather than on successive processing loops of the sound produced by the earphones. Although more difficult for the manufacturer to calibrate, this solution avoids the degradation of the sound signal inherent in conventional noise reduction methods. Transparency mode focuses on the frequency band specific to the human voice, from 200Hz to 1000Hz. In this way, the user can enjoy crystal-clear conversation while reducing higher and lower environmental sounds.
