With the RA280, Rose HiFi is offering an integrated amplifier capable of producing a power of 2x250W under 4Ω and 8Ω and positioning itself as the direct heir to the RA180. It takes the innovative digital/analogue technologies of its predecessor and pushes them furthermore, reducing harmonic distortion and enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio. Moreover, in the same way as its predecessor, the cutting-edge technologies are housed in a sleek aluminium case that is a perfect blend of vintage and modern.
A true revolution in the world of amplification, Rose HiFi is continuing to develop its innovative Class AD architecture, taking advantage of both the benefits of Class A/AB amplifiers and Class D structures. This particular design makes it possible to achieve excellent linearity, thanks in particular to the use of a new material, GaN (Gallium Nitride).
In terms of power amplifier design, the Class D topology theoretically offers total linear output at 0% distortion and 100% efficiency. To achieve this theoretical perfection, the speed and accuracy of switching operations must be assured.
To correct this problem, the RA280 features a perfectly linear output using Gallium Nitride FET field effect transistors rather than silicon FETs, which directly affect switching precision and speed. This totally linear output exceeds the capabilities of the Class D topology and provides a natural sound reproduction, close to that of an analogue amplifier.
By default, the RA280 output has a completely neutral timbre, giving you total control over the tone. In fact, you can adjust the bass (100Hz) and treble (10kHz) by ±15dB. For its tone control, the RA280 uses a high-fidelity active equaliser with a slope of 12db instead of a passive equaliser with a slope of just 6dB.
The RA280 is designed with two separate amplifier modules within a dual-mono architecture capable of delivering 2x250W into 4Ω and 8Ω. The Rose RA280 uses two-stage analog filter technology, designed by the brand to achieve the best possible sound quality. Rose HiFi's LC crossover provides excellent frequency response, offering -1dB attenuation in the frequency band up to 65kHz and -3dB attenuation in the range up to 85kHz. This technology significantly reduces the carrier noise caused by the switching inherent in Class D amplifiers, delivering clearer, crisper sound quality in all bands. Soundstage and resolution have been greatly enhanced, creating a modern sound with an analog touch.
The RA280 also makes active use of the latest technologies when it comes to its power supply, thanks to a circuit developed in-house by HiFi Rose. This circuit is based on silicon carbide FETs instead of silicon FETs. The silicon carbide FET is a high-voltage, high-temperature-resistant power semiconductor device. It has a higher efficiency and generates less heat than a silicon FET, ensuring optimum power supply. Thanks to its innovative design of materials and structure, the RA280 delivers stable high power while minimising heat generation to provide the best sound quality. In addition, the RA280 applies a 2.5kW power factor correction (PFC) circuit, also designed in-house by the brand, and introduces a high-capacitance capacitor to maintain excellent performance even in fast-load situations, giving a better response in terms of stability and reliability.
In addition to its dual mono amplification stage, the Rose Hifi RA280 also features a phono preamplifier compatible with moving magnet (MM) cartridges. This means you can connect a turntable with compatible cartridge and take advantage of the high-precision compensation circuit developed by HiFi Rose to reproduce sound as close as possible to the original, ensuring rich, vibrant sound without distortion.
