Topping now offers the excellent LA90 in a version using discrete circuits, the LA90 Discrete. The result is a powerful amplifier with incredible metering for a breathtaking listening experience. The new NFCA discrete amplifier circuitry ensures extremely clear and precise sound reproduction. The amplifier has the same features as the first LA90, with mono or stereo operation, adjustable gain and a combined balanced input connector for 6.35mm jack or XLR.
The LA90 Discrete is clad in a precision CNC machined aluminum chassis. This enclosure gives the amplifier a modern design while effectively protecting the components of the unit. The sides of the LA90 Discrete have large heat sinks, allowing the heat emitted by the internal electronics to be effectively dissipated.
The THD+N of the LA90 Discrete is extremely low, measured at less than 0.0001% under 4/8Ω 5W. These performances allow it in fact an accurate reproduction of the source signal.
The LA90 Discrete provides three balanced inputs. The inputs have a combined format, allowing the use of both XLR and Jack 6.35mm TRS cables. In addition, three connectors allow the unit to be used in mono mode.
To accommodate the vast majority of audio systems, including the most demanding, the LA90 Discrete offers two levels of adjustable gain. The first, Low Gain, offers a gain of +9.4dB in stereo or +15.4dB in mono, while the second, High Gain, provides a gain of +19.4dB in stereo or +25.4dB in mono.
The Topping LA90 Discrete can be configured and wired to operate in either stereo or mono mode, with the combination of two LA90Ds then providing higher power. When used in mono mode, the minimum impedance is 4Ω.
The volume of the LA90 Discrete can be adjusted with the large front panel knob. It is also possible to bypass the volume control of the LA90 Discrete in order to combine it with a HiFi preamplifier. The latter is useful for synchronizing the volume of two LA90 Discrete in mono mode.
The Topping LA90 Discrete is equipped with a 12V trigger input and output. It can thus be connected to other devices and allow an automatic switch on and off of them.
