Dayton Audio's Ultimax series of dual-coil subwoofers use the latest in subwoofer technology. As a result, the UM8-22 Ultimax is capable of delivering extremely deep and punchy bass. Its 2Ω dual voice coil allows for 2Ω stereo and 1Ω mono wiring configurations when paired with high current car or professional audio amplifiers to extract maximum power. For home applications, simply wire the coils in series for a 4Ω load and better compatibility with HiFi amplifiers.

To improve power handling, thermal management and power compression, Dayton Audio has designed the Ultimax range with large anodized frames and aerated pole pieces, under spider ventilation and double layer copper coils. It also benefits from a large travel capacity with a linear displacement, thanks to the use of a double spider, which also limits distortion. The rubber surrounds with integrated seals maintain the speaker surface in case of extreme deflection. The thick Nomex diaphragm has a woven glass fiber coating, creating an ultra rigid, distortion resistant surface.

A large copper tube and copper end cap in the motor reduce energy storage from the inductor, thereby reducing distortion for faster response. Large, high-energy magnets give this subwoofer a Qts such that it can be used in both open and closed speaker cabinets.
