High performance digital network player
This item is a digital player with network support. That is, it is able to play audio tracks from a remote source. This source may be a hard drive located within the network or even an online streaming service
With no screen and no control interface, this DigiOne player can be remotely controlled from a mobile phone, tablet or any device that can run an internet browser. A way to enjoy a high quality audio playback without having to leave the sofa or bath.
This new version of the digital player is based on a Raspberry 3B+ SBC (Single Board Computer). This version keeps every advantage of the former bersion and now gains access to better network connectivity (Wifi 802.11 b/g/n/ac and Ethernet 300mbps).
Despite its small size, this device has all the capabilities to play high quality audio files, including the most demanding audiophile formats in terms of computing power and memory. Moreover, this new version has been upgraded as to provide an even better network support, speed and stabtility.
The Raspberry Pi card is equipped with a DigiOne digital interface. This high-performance digital audio module is renowned in the audiophile world for its excellent price / quality ratio. It extends the capabilities of the Raspberry card and allows it to exit the digital audio stream via a BNC output and an RCA output.
With its two internal clocks, the DigiOne interface offers a remarkably clean signal as evidenced by its extremely low jitter rate of 0.4 picosecond. The jitter is taken up by all the elements of the chain and difficult to erase at the cost of new inaccuracies of the signal, this feature makes the DigiOne an ideal choice for a high fidelity digital player.
Used in a high fidelity channel, this type of network reader is extremely practical since it is infinitely more compact than a conventional computer and thus limits the space occupied. Wireless connectivity is also useful for reducing congestion related to cable buildup. Reciprocally, all of its computational power and computer construction are mobilized in the service of audio quality. The sound quality will be multiplied compared to a smartphone or a conventional tablet.
Thus, your devices dedicated to communication and work avoid being solicited for a precarious audio use and remain available for their other functions: no more the phone that rings in the middle of an opera or the computer that makes an update during a guitar solo. The network player for its part only fulfills an audio function and therefore have no pretext to disrupt the listening.
Unlike many network drives based on a Raspberry Pi type SBC, this DigiOne player is already equipped with preinstalled audio software. It is therefore not necessary to have skills in installation under linux or micro-SD card flashing. The device is ready to use, it will just connect to your network to enjoy the full extent of its capabilities.
Volumio is a software developed for the sake of providing a high-performance interface from an audio point of view while remaining as comfortable and intuitive to use as any other consumer solution. This software exploits all the hardware capabilities of the Raspberry Pi, especially its connectivity since it offers the ability to control the player from any device that can connect to a web browser (computer, smartphone, tablet or even other SBC ... etc.). It is therefore very simple to choose a music, to change the reading options, the sound volume from anywhere as long as the connection to the network exists.
To go even further and extend the capabilities of the device, Volumio is also able to manage a wifi hotspot. That is to say to establish an ad hoc network if the fixed network is missing. This means that the unit will still be able to play your audio library even if your router / box fails. On the other hand, it also means that this network drive can be moved for use in private network locations (joint benefit to its very small size).
The tradition of the SBC is singularly articulated around the notion of open source. Devices and software solutions compatible with Raspberry Pi are no exception, so you can easily change the software installed on your network drive if you want to experiment with other softwares or other functions.
This network player will work just as well with Max2Play, DietPi or Picoreplayer depending on your audio projects. It will be enough to extract the micro-SD card and to flash it with the software image of your choice.
