Dayton Audio ND90-PR

Passive Radiator Aluminium 53.8Hz Ø8.9cm

Dayton Audio ND90-PR Radiateur Passif Aluminium 53.8Hz Ø8.9cm

The Dayton Audio ND90-PR is a Ø8.9cm passive radiator. It is an excellent solution for bass boosting in small speakers. This small passive radiator has everything you would expect from larger models, including an adjustable weight, aluminium cone and rubber suspension. Visually identical to the ND series speakers, the ND90-PR can be used with any other small speaker. The threaded rod and wing nut integrated into the rear of the diaphragm allow you to easily add weight to adjust the passive radiator to suit your project.

In general, a passive radiator should have at least twice the air displacement (Vd) compared to the system's active loudspeaker/subwoofer. To calculate the air displacement: Vd = Sd x Xmax.

Operation of a passive radiator

The passive radiator (or passive loudspeaker) fits into a box with an active loudspeaker. This passive radiator, although it may at first glance look like a "classic" loudspeaker, in fact has no engine parts. Thus, there is no coil, magnet and power supply in its design. In the same way, it will not be electrically connected to a power amplifier.

To diffuse sound, the passive radiator will use the air pressures and depressions induced by the active loudspeaker in the cabinet to vibrate its diaphragm to deliver deep bass. Its resonance frequency is determined by its mass and the air contained in the cabinet. It is therefore possible to vary its resonance frequency on many models and tune it to the speaker by adding mass.
