Portable Balanced DAC Burr-Brown XMOS 32bit 384kHz DSD256 MQA
The Hip DAC from iFi Audio is back, in a second version, now with an orange metal shell, but above all with improved audio circuits. This one integrates a 16-core XMOS USB interface, with a doubled clock speed and a quadrupled memory. MQA support has also been added, as well as an improved clock oscillator.
The Hip DAC2 is an excellent solution to accompany a smartphone, tablet or computer and ensure a beautiful sound reproduction. The connection is simply via USB-A for the source. The selected Burr-Brown DAC chip and its True Native architecture allow the Hip DAC to offer beautiful musicality, regardless of the type of stream, be it bit-perfect PCM, native DSD or MQA.
The improved clock makes it possible to eradicate the jitter, using the system GMT Femto Precision of the mark. This technology makes it possible to preserve the integrity of the digital signal for a particularly faithful restitution.
Thanks to the 16-core XMOS USB interface, the Hip DAC2 can now decode MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) files. These files allow you to enjoy a sound reproduction as close as possible to the original studio recording. LEDs on the device also indicate that it is decoding and playing an MQA stream.
The Hip DAC2's amplifier circuitry is fully balanced. All audio circuitry uses high quality components, carefully selected for their performance in audio use. These include a custom OV AOP, TDK C0G Class 1 ceramic capacitors, a low noise power supply circuit and a high quality volume control.
The Hip DAC2's amplifier stage is capable of delivering 400mW of power at 32Ω, ensuring compatibility with many headphones and earphones on the market. Even high-impedance headphones can be paired with it, thanks to an output voltage of 6.3V under 600Ω (balanced output).
The Hip DAC2's amplifier stage has an adjustable gain, a feature called PowerMatch. It can thus adapt to the impedance of most headphones and earphones.
The XBass function allows you to boost the bass, without stifling the midrange. This feature is particularly useful with open-air headphones that may lack bass.
The Hip DAC2 has two USB ports. The first, in USB-A format, allows the transfer of audio data, while the second, in USB-C format, is used for charging. Two outputs are also available: a 3.5mm jack for a single-ended connection and a 4.4mm jack for a balanced connection. The 3.5mm jack output benefits from the brand's proprietary S-Balanced technology, improving its performance by reducing crosstalk and distortion by half.
