The Matrix MA-1 power amplifier is part of the brand's M series, completed by the MS-1 streamer and MP-1 preamplifier. This new series features a new design, both in terms of appearance and internal structure. This power amplifier is capable of delivering up to 2x 450W at 4 ohms and 1x900W at 4 ohms in bridged mode. Connections include the essentials, as well as two 12V triggers. A switch allows gain to be adjusted to 2 levels for greater compatibility with different types of preamplifier and speakers. As for its power supply, Matrix has chosen to integrate an independent transformer per channel and numerous capacitors for an extremely reliable, clean power supply.
The Matrix MA-1 power amplifier uses a Class AB amplification system with a parallel multi-triode push-pull output stage. 10 ONSEMI transistors per channel compose the push-pull amplification circuit, reducing the impedance at the amplifier's output terminals. Powerful, the MA-1 delivers up to 2x 450W at 4 Ohm and 1x900W at 4 Ohm in bridged mode.
Each channel is processed independently for a high level of detail and precision.
In bridged mode, the combination of two MA-1s gives you up to 2x900W of power at 4 ohms. This makes it possible to drive all types of speaker, even the most difficult.
In mono mode, you can power two loudspeakers in a configuration with two MA-1 amplifiers and create a bi-wiring connection.
The MA-1 amplifier has two gain settings. A normal setting is equivalent to +30dB, and an attenuation setting to +24dB. This allows the MA-1 to be paired with a wide range of preamplifiers and speakers available on the market.
The MA-1 power supply incorporates one transformer per channel for a totally balanced design and a total power of 1250VA. Added to this are 14 parallel-connected capacitors per channel, each rated at 6,800uF. This means a total of 190,000uF per channel. The advantage compared to using a single capacitor of this power lies in the fact that it limits the internal resistance for greater flexibility in managing significant currents.
Two sensors located on the main heat sink are connected to the MA-1 microprocessor for continuous evaluation of the unit's temperature. When the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, a large, silent fan (approx. 18cm in diameter) starts up, adjusting its speed dynamically.
