Ian Canada UcPure Quad Supercapacitor Power Module Class A 5V / 3.3V
Ian Canada's UcPure is a supercapacitor power module. It uses large supercapacitors of 3000F to provide a high-performance power supply. It is a totally passive module, with no feedback and no active components. In pure output mode, only the set of pre-charged supercapacitors is applied to the load.
The UcPure is equipped with a synchronous charging function (SYNC) to enable the supercapacitors to be recharged when music playback stops.
The Ian Canada UcPure Quad is an improved version of the UcPure. It uses a new architecture to run four 3000F supercapacitors in parallel (two groups), to deliver exceptional performance. It is thus capable of delivering a current of up to 4800A with an internal ESR of just 0.23mΩ (continuous output mode). The UcPure Quad therefore represents a high-quality, low-noise, high-dynamic power supply system for enhancing the sound quality of sensitive audio peripherals such as low-jitter clocks, DACs, FIFO buffers and many other types of circuitry.
Supercapacitors are sold separately.
Key features:
- High-performance supercapacitor power supply.
- Supercapacitors operate in Class A, with current flowing in one direction only.
- The output can be configured as 3.3V or 5V (default) using the module's jumpers.
- The outputs are totally isolated from the charger and power input in pure mode.
- Can be controlled by an ON/OFF chain (optically isolated) as part of a power supply package.
- Supplied with built-in and external ON/OFF buttons.
- Optical isolators are used for all internal processing logic.
- Integrated protection scheme to prevent supercapacitors from depletion or low output voltage.
- Synchronous charging function (SYNC). Supercapacitors can be recharged when the music stops. This function can prevent a drop in output voltage or protection even when listening to music for long periods. The SYNC control signal can be connected to the MUTE signal of a MonitorPi Pro or FifoPiQ7 (sold separately). Several UcPure units can operate together using the signal as a control chain. The signal is isolated from the UcPure so as not to affect power supply performance.
- Designed for 24/7 use.
- Four 3000F capacitors operate in parallel to reduce output ESR to a very low level, never achieved before. Noise is also reduced by 1/√(2).
- New dual PCB architecture to completely eliminate wires between the UcPure and the supercapacitors, thereby improving performance, with cable resistance even higher than the ESR of the supercapacitors.

Switched outputs: J7, J9: 0.43mΩ + ESR fuse. - Balancing functions have been integrated directly into the PCB, so there's no need for an external balancing/protection module.

- Fast charging current of 5.3A or 8.1A, configurable via jumpers.
- Optimized 12V AC input. Can also operate with 15V to 20V DC input voltage.
- Double copper thickness, 4-layer PCB for low ESR.
- Two groups of continuous and switched outputs for enhanced compatibility.
