The Cosmos Scaler is a low-noise, variable-gain preamplifier designed specifically for the Cosmos ADCs. It incorporates quality components such as two OPA1612 and two OPA1656 OPAs, Viking resistors, Murata and Samsung COG capacitors. In terms of connectivity, it features two balanced input channels accepting 3.5mm TRS 3-pole jacks with an impedance of 200/100kOhms (balanced/unbalanced) and up to 20/10Vrms (balanced/unbalanced). A mono mode is also available using the left-hand 3.5mm jack input. Outputs are two 3-pole TRS balanced 3.5mm jack connectors with an output impedance of 20/10Ohms (balanced/unbalanced) and power up to 20/10Vrms, depending on whether the signal is balanced or unbalanced. The Cosmos Scaler has 16 gain settings from 0 to 26dB and an automatic adjustment position.

LEDs on the front panel indicate the output power of each channel.

• 1.7Vrms < Blue LED < 4.5Vrms 
• 4.5Vrms < Green LED < 10Vrms
• Red LED > 10Vrms

Power for the Cosmos Scaler is supplied via a USB-C connector (+5V, idle current <500 mA).

Mono mode operation

The Cosmos Scaler can be operated in mono mode via the left channel's 3.5mm jack input. The signal is automatically transferred to the right channel for mono operation with the Cosmos ADC. The Cosmos APU's 3.5mm jack to XLR cables work in mono mode between the Cosmos Scaler and Cosmos ADC.

Gain settings

The rotary knob provides access to 16 gain adjustment positions: 0, 7, 10.7, 13.38, 15.788, 17.38, 18.673, 19.844, 21.08, 21.98, 22.764, 23.513, 24.336, 24.965, 25.527, 26.078. In the "Auto" position, the Cosmos Scaler operates as an ultra-fast autoranger (100ms), targeting the left channel output at 4.5Vrms. The right channel output voltage is ignored. The valid autoranger frequency range is 20Hz-20kHz.
