Solid DAC
I have had this DAC for a few years now. I have the second AKM version. It have no other DAC to compare it too, but I have been impressed by its absolute reliability, great sound and useful features. The first of those is the perfect volume control that seems not to lose resolution as it is turned down. The second is the loudness button which is exactly what is needed for late night low level listening. I also use the basic bass and treble controls though not the parametric because frankly I have not been able to master it. The user interface is forbidding. Lastly, as far as filter go I set it NOS which sounds to me the most natural. There may be other DACs that are more impressive. I would like to get a good ladder DAC but at three times the price will it be three times better?

Qoui dire: en quelques jours seulement ce DAC est en train de prendre le dessus sur mes autres appareils. Le lecteur de CD Prima Luna passe par là, le préamplificateur Conrad Johnson n'est que rarement utilisé. Je branche le RME DAC directement sur l'amplificateur de puissance (un CJ Première 140 à tubes) qui alimente mes haut parleurs passifs (des vieux Sonus Faber Guarneri). J'ai pu faire quelques ajustements pour une écoute agréable pour mes oreilles. Je le connecte aussi à mon téléphone Android et à un iPad et je vais bientôt compléter la chaîne avec un streamer WiiM qui sera connecté via coaxial ou optique (pour ne pas utiliser le DAC interne du streamer). Un changement important pour mon écoute a été la capacité de reproduire bien la musique même a des niveaux sonores plus bas: la musique reste audible sans devenir un bruit de fond comme c'était le cas auparavant. Il y a encore pas mal de paramètres à découvrir et essayer. Entre temps, c'est une belle réussite, bravo!

Un dac de qualité
Ce dac m'accompagne depuis plusieurs mois et n'a pas encore montré ses limites malgré mes évolutions d'amplifications et d'enceintes. Aujourd'hui il distille la musique à travers un ampli clad purifi et des enceintes audiovector r3 signature. Pour avoir mieux il faut sans doute doubler le prix..

It is more restrained at high frequencies and a little fatter.But if you put the output filter - Sharp, then it looks a little more like ess dac. The containment of bright sounds allows you to listen at high volume without fatigue. also you will not have irritability with "bright" acoustics. The DAC has great functionality. - parametric equalizer, tone controls, adjustable loudness - this allows you to equalize the sound for any acoustics or headphones according to your personal desire.However, with the neutral sound of the PME-2, it has no problems with detail, it has a very wide stereo base, it has well-defined instruments and vocalists like on a stage... And the reverberation and echo of the hall where it was made is also well transmitted. The RME-2 works well with any type of headphone and has separate settings for all headphones and a separate line-out with saved presets.
