Compact DAC / Digital audio player
Based on a Raspberry Pi Zero SBC (Miniature Computer), this player features a mini-HDMI input, a micro-USB port and wifi connectivity. It is a surprisingly compact audio source that can play digital files from a hard drive, media center or streaming platform.
Despite its small size (31mm x 65mm for a weight of less than 10g) the Raspberry Pi Zero card shows performance quite suitable for audio use. There is a Broadcom BCM2835 1GHz single-core ARM11 processor, 512MB RAM
The DAC Zero digital to analog converter is designed to combine ease of use and high definition sound. Versatile and complete, it connects to an amplifier, headphones or active speakers thanks to a stereo jack output and a 3.5 mm stereo line-out output
It offers a high quality digital to analog conversion capacity up to at 384kHz / 32bit and can stream high quality audio over a local area network, hard drive or directly from the cloud.
The DAC Zero has a 25mW integrated headphone amplifier
For more user comfort, the hardware and software volume can be adjusted directly by the Raspberry Pi Zero
The assembly and installation of the various components is of elementary simplicity. No welding is needed and the components are already cut to fit by hand. If necessary, you will find a complete notice here.
First, mount the DAC Zero card (red) on the Raspberry Pi Zero using the GPIO extension. Once the cards are assembled, all that remains is to install them in the box provided.
The housing allows free access to the micro SD card slot, micro-usb (data and power), mini-HDMI input and headphone and line out outputs.
The JustBoom Player software solution is already installed on the micro-SD card provided. It is therefore not necessary to know about installing SBC software. It will be enough to insert the micro-SD card and connect the reader to the network to initialize the start-up. The device will automatically create a Wi-Fi hotspot that you can connect to in order to connect it permanently to your network. The whole (fast and easy) maneuver is detailed here .
The software is open source, that is to say it is possible to change at any time without limitation depending on your projects. In addition to Justboom (simple and complete), this player is precisely compatible with a plethora of configuration locielles like PicorePlayer (reader / media center) or DietPi (very modular).
