With the Altair G2.2, Auralic offers a new version of its streamer that also functions as a DAC and preamplifier. The additions in version 2.2 include a dual clock with an updated dedicated power supply, galvanic isolation between the different stages of the device to drastically reduce background noise, and a new version of the streaming platform.
The digital/analogue conversion stage of the Altair G2.2 is based on an architecture developed by Auralic called "DAC fusion". This hybrid architecture between the ladder resistor network and the delta-sigma modulator allows you to benefit from features such as clock signal reconstruction, digital filters and oversampling, while leaving the final conversion to the R2R network, so you can enjoy superb sound quality.
The Altair G2.2 preserves the analogue preamplifier function of its predecessor while improving the output level from 4.4V to 6V, allowing it to effortlessly meet the needs of the most power-hungry amplifiers. Class A ORFEO output modules ensure that the balanced output can drive loads well below 600 Ω with minimal performance degradation. If you wish, you can disable the Altair G2.2's preamplifier function via its control software and reduce the output level to 2V, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into a configuration featuring an external preamplifier. In addition, a home cinema bypass mode is available for the analogue inputs, allowing maximum flexibility for your audio installation.
The Altair G2.2 incorporates an analogue volume control with a ladder resistor. Unlike digital volume controls, which reduce signal level but cannot deal with background noise, the analogue volume control reduces both signal level and background noise while preserving the dynamic range of the system. Thanks to the use of eight coil relays, this volume control system consumes no power and emits no EMI noise when inactive, guaranteeing control without unwanted noise or distortion. Once set, the system remains electronically transparent, contributing to the unit's excellent audio quality.
Built on a 64-bit quad-core architecture, the Tesla G3 streaming platform offers eight times the processing capacity of its predecessor. Equipped with 4GB of DDR4 system memory, the Tesla G3 can easily handle the most demanding processing tasks, making it a future-proof solution that will adapt to the rapidly changing digital audio landscape.
The Tesla G3 platform also uses Direct Memory Access (DMA) technology for its audio input and output channels, allowing all audio-related hardware and software to access system memory directly, dramatically reducing latency and jitter by 90% compared to Tesla G2.
To keep the clock signal, power supply and input signal clean, the Altair G2.2 incorporates multiple high-speed galvanic isolators positioned between the Tesla G3 platform and the ultra-sensitive audio circuitry. These isolators provide total physical separation and protection against interference, shielding the DAC from potential noise while allowing smooth data transfer.
The Altair G2.2 offers a choice of inputs, so you can use your favourite music player software with ease. It is 100% compatible with OpenHome-based control software such as BubbleUPnP and Linn Kazoo, and is RoonReady certified for optimised performance within your Roon ecosystem. You can enjoy support for TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect, and benefit from compatibility with Apple AirPlay 2 for an incredibly simple user experience.
The Altair G2.2 can easily be controlled remotely using Auralic's proprietary Lighting DS application. This application, exclusive to IOS, lets you play music from multiple sources, including local files, seamlessly, thanks to an elegant, ergonomic interface.
Auralic Lightling DSThe Altair G2.2 also offers the option of connecting a USB CD drive to the Altair G2.2 to either simply play CDs or extract data from them. Furthermore, when reading a CD, the Altair G2.2 applies the same treatment to the data as when used as a streamer, reading and re-comparing the data in cache before sending it to the rest of the system. The result is the elimination of potential transport-induced jitter, negating any negative effect of the quality of the chosen CD player.
The Tone Mode setting refines the sonic character of the DAC output by incorporating harmonic elements into the music signal, based on a model derived from auditory psychology. This innovative feature enhances the listening experience, taking the Altair G2.2 to new heights of audio excellence.
