FiiO R9 Audio Streamer Balanced DAC 2x ES9038PRO Headphone Amplifier THX788+ 32bit 768kHz DSD512 MQA
With its R9, FiiO unveils an extremely versatile high-performance desktop device. The R9 functions as a DAC, streamer and headphone amplifier. Two ES9038Pro DAC chips enable it to decode high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD512 and MQA, while its RJ45 port and large display give you easy access to all streaming services: Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, Qobuz, etc. The amplifier stage features THX AAA-788+ technology and a balanced dual-mono structure for headphone output power of up to 7300mW. The FiiO R9's connectivity is extremely varied, with 3 headphone outputs on the front panel, as well as two line outputs and digital and optical inputs/outputs (HDMI ARC, coaxial, Toslink, USB-C, USB-A (U-disk) and micro SD slot). The whole system is powered by an Android operating system.
FiiO R9: Dual ESS ES9038PRO DAC and XMOS XU316 USB interface
FiiO has incorporated carefully selected components into its R9. Among these are two 8-channel DAC chips from ESS Technology, providing very low distortion and noise levels. The symmetrical architecture of the audio signal processing also limits jitter. A third-generation USB XMOS interface is also included. The R9 supports high-resolution PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD512 and MQA streams.
FiiO R9: THX AAA-788+ amplification
The R9's headphone amplifier stage is made up of two THX AAA-788+ modules in a fully symmetrical dual-mono architecture. These THX amplification modules offer substantial amplification power, precise noise-free sound reproduction with extremely low distortion and extended frequency response. This makes the R9 ideal for enjoying ultra-detailed, high-resolution streams. It also features three headphone outputs: unbalanced 6.35mm jack, balanced 4.4mm jack and balanced 4-pin XLR. The R9 reaches up to 3500W under 16 ohm on its unbalanced output and up to 7500mW under 32 ohm on its balanced outputs. A 5-step gain control allows it to adapt to both low-impedance IEMs and the more difficult to drive high-impedance headphones.
FiiO R9: a connected headphone amplifier
The Android 10 operating system (upgradeable to Android 12) and dual WiFi/Ethernet network controller enable the FiiO R9 not only to play audio files on local networks (NAS, computer, Roon ready...), but also to access numerous online streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Deezer or Qobuz. Access to the PlayStore is also integrated, providing access to many more services. All these services can be accessed via a large 6" color touchscreen, or remotely via the FiiO Control App mobile application.
FiiO R9: Bluetooth and Airplay for wireless connectivity
The FiiO R9 multifunction device is also able to receive or stream high-fidelity Bluetooth codecs (aptX HD, LDAC, LHDC) thanks to a bidirectional Bluetooth 5.0 controller. AirPlay technology is also available for optimum compatibility with Apple equipment.
FiiO R9 overview
The R9 incorporates comprehensive connectivity for optimum compatibility with a wide range of sources. It features a SPDIF coaxial and Toslink optical in/out interface, HDMI input and HDMI ARC output. This allows it to be easily combined with a CD player, Blu-ray player or even your TV, so you can enjoy listening through headphones or your sound system. A USB-C input also enables it to function as a DAC with a computer, and a USB-A port and micro SD card slot let you access content stored on external media. In addition to the 3 headphone outputs, there are two line outputs: a stereo RCA output and a balanced stereo XLR output with fixed or variable level for coupling with any type of amplifier.
