Successor to the Mini-I Pro 3, the Matrix Mini-I Pro 4 is a versatile, compact device offering the functions of DAC, headphone amplifier and, the latest addition to the Mini-I series, streamer.
Matrix has updated the DAC chip in the Mini-I Pro 4, choosing to integrate one of ESS Technologie's latest DAC chips, the ES9039Q2M. On the network player side, this device supports numerous broadcast protocols and incorporates Matrix Audio's own MA player interface. It can also be controlled via the MA Remote App. As for the headphone amplifier, the amplification circuit is designed to be totally symmetrical.
In terms of ergonomics and design, the Mini-I Pro 4 features a 3.46" touch screen with high-resolution display, facilitating control operations. But the great novelty of the Pro 4 version is the addition of an HDMI ARC port for a Hi-Fi TV experience.
Thanks to its ES9039Q2M DAC chip using Hyperstream IV technology and taking advantage of the advanced Sabre HiFi architecture, the Mini-I Pro 4 is able to support PCM 24bit 768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA streams via its USB-B digital input. It also benefits from a Quad cortex-A55 2.0 GHz CPU.
With its two outputs (a 6.35mm jack and a balanced 4.4mm jack) and its power, the Mini-I Pro 4 has no trouble driving high-impedance headphones. The totally symmetrical amplifier circuit design reduces interference for clean audio signal transmission.
As a true network player, the Mini-I Pro 4 allows you to enjoy a wide range of streaming services, as well as audio streams via a LAN connection (Gigabit Ethernet 1000Mbps and dual-band Wi-Fi). With the brand's own MA player, DLNA/UPnP, Airplay, spotify connect or Tidal connect protocols make high-resolution streaming accessible. The Matrix Mini-I Pro 4 is also Roon Ready certified.
Local music playback is also possible via a USB storage device thanks to the USB-C port (5V/1.5A, working with devices compliant with the USB mass storage standard and the FAT, FAT32, exFAT and NTFS formats) or local NAS network.
With your smatphone or tablet, the MA remote app lets you connect to Tidal, Qobuz and HighRes Audio accounts for a high-quality streaming experience. The Mini-I Pro 4 also supports vTuner internet radio and Radio paradise via this app and an internet connection.
Matrix Audio's RM5 remote control, specially designed for the Mini-I series, is supplied with the Mini-I Pro 4. It lets you control the device remotely, for even greater ease of use. The layout and functionality of the buttons have been redesigned. A programmable button now lets you add a shortcut for the function you use most frequently.
The Mini-I Pro 4 features numerous digital inputs, as well as an analog stereo RCA input for additional audio sources such as a turntable. As for outputs, it features a stereo RCA output and a balanced stereo XLR output. The big news on the Pro 4 version is the HDMI ARC input, enabling users to enjoy HiFi TV sound.

The Matrix Audio mini-i Pro 4 packs an impressive range of functions into a small package. On its own, it can handle streaming or TV sound via its HDMI port, as well as a turntable and headphone amp. The very straight sound signature will work wonderfully with some systems, less so with others: it's up to you to manage its association. Ergonomics are exemplary, with a mobile app, remote control, touchscreen, HDMI CEC and AirPlay 2 or Roon compatibility. This mini-i Pro 4 is a worthy representative of the Hifi of the 2020s.
