Streamer / Power amplifier TPA3255 / DSP Dirac Live SHARC / DAC PCM1795
SHD Power by miniDSP is an all-in-one device including a network streamer, a DAC, a DSP with volume control and a stereo amplifier with additional analog outputs to connect up to two active sub speakers simultaneously .
In other words, the SHD Power alone fulfills all the functions of a complete and autonomous High-Fidelity chain. Just connect your speakers and you will obtain a compact, efficient and ready-to-use solution capable of playing your high definition digital audio files from a SPDIF / AES / EBU source, a USB audio source, a USB key, a storage device located on your local network (NAS), from a web-radio or a online streaming platform.
The device embeds a SHARC processor with Dirac Live and offers a very powerful acoustic correction solution in order to adapt to the specifics of your listening room and to compensate any imperfection likely to degrade your experience. This function requires a UMIK measuring microphone not supplied with the SHD Power unit.
At the core of the SHD Power is a SHARC ADSP21489 audio processor with DIRAC Live. It is configured via USB and lets you to specify in advance up to 4 different digital signal processing profiles which can then be called quickly from the front interface or via a remote control.
Powerful and easy to use, the DIRAC Live solution offers a 10-band parametric equalizer per channel, a 48dB / octave crossover, a compressor / limiter, and a 2x4 mixing matrix with assisted self-calibration using a UMIK measurement microphone (essential for calibration and sold separately). This processor offers a complete and accessible workflow to measure and correct the acoustic imperfections of your listening room.
Two digital outputs on AES / EBU connector make it possible to get the digital signal just after the SHARC processor to send it to a second external DA, which considerably extends the integration capabilities of the miniDSP SHD Power.
The USB-B connector is a high-definition USB-Audio Class 2 type input used to connect the unit to a digital source (Windows / MacOSX computer) in order to use the SHD as an audio device directly controllable by the operating system. This input supports sampling rates up to 192kHz with a depth of 32bit.
The USB-B input also allows you to configure the SHARC processor via the Dirac Live interface from your computer.
Please note: your PC must have at least two USB ports to simultaneously connect an UMIK measuring microphone and the SHD Power. Once this configuration has been made, the unit can operate independently and independently of your computer if you do not intend to use it as an audio device for your PC.
It is a bidirectional USB interface. It is therefore also possible to recover the digital signal processed and separated up to 4 channels directly on your computer for occasional use in acquisition.
A second USB-A input is available on the connector panel. The latter works as a USB host and can directly access audio files stored on a USB key or an external hard drive to connect storage devices on the fly.
All analog outputs (amplified outputs to speaker terminals & non-amplified outputs to RCA connector) are processed by a PCM1795 32bit D / A conversion chip. These outputs benefit from an excellent frequency response (10 Hz - 30 kHz +/- 0.2dB), a very comfortable Signal / Noise Ratio of 120dB with an extremely low THD + N of 0.0007%.
Non-amplified analog outputs will typically allow easy connection of up to two amplified subwoofers to the system for home theater use. It is of course possible to configure a filtering / crossover specific to non-amplified outputs in order to conform the signal to the specifications of your subwoofers and achieve the best settings with your speakers. Please note, while it is possible to use two subwoofers at the same time, this operation also means increased complexity for the configuration of room corrections via DIRAC LIVE.
The SHD Power has an amplified analog output to directly connect your passive speakers. This output works thanks to a TPA3255 class D amplification chip and can develop up to 2x120W RMS under a 8 / 4 Ohms load.
The integrated amplifier has a nice signal-to-noise ratio of 110dB (@ 1kHz A-weighted, 120W & 8Ω) with a THD + N <0.03% (4Ohms, f = 20Hz-20kHz, 60mW-100W) / <0.07% (8Ohms , f = 20Hz-20kHz, 60mW-100W) and a crosstalk of <-95dB (1kHz).
In addition to the Dirac Live interface accessible from your computer, the unit is delivered with a Volumio distribution preinstalled. This software has all the tools to easily control all the device's network player functions thanks to a web interface which is accessible from your local network. It is for example possible to use the Web interface with a smartphone / tablet / computer to explore and select the audio files contained on a USB key connected to the SHD Power, to access audio files stored on a NAS, or to access an online streaming service.
" The MiniDSP SHD Power delivers the best performance in the DAC department for amplifiers with equalization. Certainly going above and beyond even high-end AV Processors. "
