The Tung-Sol 7189 pentode tube has been developed for applications in amplifier output stages of high-fidelity amplifiers. Due to its characteristics, it is interchangeable with EL84 and 6BQ5 tubes. However, it differs from the latter by offering a higher maximum plate voltage and power as well as a higher nominal screen voltage. Its robust design for extended life and improved performance make this 7189 tube an excellent solution to replace or improve a tube amplifier.

Production of the original 7189 tubes ended in the early 1980s and they became expensive and difficult to find. Tung-Sol has therefore launched the production of new 7189 tubes with the same technical specifications and performance as the original models.
