Speaker Driver Woofer Carbon Fiber 100W 8 Ohm 89dB 50Hz - 8000Hz Ø13.3cm
The Dayton Audio E160CF-8 Epic woofer combines high-end materials with advanced engineering to create a transducer that makes no compromises. Every aspect has been examined and optimized by the brand to keep distortion as low as possible, while developing impressive performance and wide frequency response. This model provides excellent off-axis and transient response, promoting a wide, realistic and immersive sound stage.
The design of the E160CF-8 Epic focuses on reducing distortion and increasing dynamics. The proprietary FEA-optimized motor uses a large neodymium magnet with top and bottom plates thick enough to provide impressive force in the air gap. The likeable part features a thick aluminum shorting ring that minimizes inductance and provides near-linear impedance up to 20kHz (less than 12Ω at 20kHz).
The membrane is moved by a 38mm double layer coil wound around a Titanium support which generates minimal eddy currents to improve efficiency and transient response. The membrane is made of carbon fiber and coated with epoxy. Beyond its aesthetic appearance, this membrane is extremely lightweight, particularly rigid and provides excellent damping for maximum control and a sound that is both natural and accurate. The rubber suspension and the large flat spider suspend the diaphragm and ensure its linear support in the excursion range, with a minimum of restriction, to further improve dynamics and transients.
The open cast aluminum bowl holds the assembly firmly while allowing a large margin of manoeuvre at the back of the membrane to control reflections. To keep the voice coil and magnet at a reasonable temperature while minimizing compression and noise, the E160CF-8 benefits from an extensive motor ventilation system thanks to the EVS™ (Extensive Venting System) technology. No less than 16 openings under the spider, 9 peripheral vents in the coil air gap and a large double-flared aerodynamic vent through the pole piece, allow this efficient thermal control.
